Testimonials

Dear M’s Schlarb:

I recently completed an Adult Education Computer Class at MCCTC and felt the circumstance that permitted this to happen, may be extremely interesting to you, as the Supervisor.

After signing up for Windows XP – Basic Concepts of the Operating System Class in August, I attended the first session.  Within five minutes, it was apparent that this was not a Basic Class. Having no knowledge of the procedure to turn a computer on, I left the room rather upset.

Stopping at the registration desk, and voicing displeasure, I was directed to a lady who was a training coordinator, Sandy Furano. After challenging the Class Title, “Basic Concepts”, and explaining that I was an elderly adult who wanted to learn the use of a computer, she confirmed that the class was wrong. I thanked her and started to leave, when she ask me to go to her office, where we could look over the Fall Class schedules.

M’s Furano tried to find a class to accommodate my request, noting that the Fee had been paid. She was unable to find a class within the next 2 or 3 months, and then ask if I would be available the following Monday, when she could arrange and assist in the computer instruction. I agreed to return on Monday.

Over the next eight (8) weeks M’s Furano fit Twelve (12) hours of Basic Computer instruction into her schedule. Graduating October 6th, I now can turn a computer on, type letters, search the internet and do so very, very much more.

Without the Adult Education Program at MCCTC, I would still be a retired person put out to pasture. Now, I am personally enriched and firmly believe I can find a position, where I would be a service to the Business World and to Society.

Sandy Furano is an excellent instructor, who spoke in a language and on a level that most older adults, who do not understand computer lingo, can comprehend. She was very professional while trying to accommodate me, and without question, is very experienced in computer applications.

Mahoning County is very fortunate to have the MCCTC facility for Career Training of our Youth, and to be able to offer an equal benefit of Adult Education, where career changing may be necessary.

Thanks to ALL who have made this experience possible.

Sincerely,

Edwin L Ott
